Chapter 11: Recording a sample
In the Keep and Retry window in Direct Recording
mode, if you select the pad in the Assign to pad
filed, the new “Record event” field will be displayed.
If you select YES in the Record event field, the re-
cording start timing is written as track event in the
sequence. The recorded sample can be played back
with the same timing that the sequence is playing
back. For this example, please select to “YES”.
15. Press the [F5] (KEEP) key.
This closes the Keep or Retry windows and goes back
to the MAIN page with Direct Recording waiting.
After the recording, try to play the sequence. You can hear
the recorded sample is in the same timing as the sequence.
Note : The recorded sample will be removed when you switch the
unit off. To keep the sample you need to save on a memory card or
the internal Hard disk (optional) or import it to a comuputer via
USB. For more information about saving the data, see the “Save/
Load” section on page 103 or see the “Connecting the MPC2500
to your computer” section page 112.
Tips : The recorded sample will be assigned to the pad in the
Program which is currently selected in the MAIN page. It will
be useful to make an empty Program to assign the recorded sample
to before attempting a Direct Recording.
Setting the Continuous sample track
The MPC2500 plays the sample assigned to the pad
when trigging the pad event. So that, if you have the
sequence which has a long sample and start playing
the sequence from a point which is past the actual pad
event, the sample may not be played. Because the pad
event for the sample may be earlier than the sequence
play start point.
If you use the Continuous sample track feature avail-
able in the MISC. page within the OTHER mode, the
MPC2500 will plays the sample earlier than the se-
quence play start point. This is very useful when play-
ing a long sample, like a vocal passage, which has been
recorded by using the Direct Recording. For more in-
formation about the Continuous sample track, see the
“Continuous sample track” feature in Chapter 19: Oth-
ers.
