Chapter 9: Saving and Loading From Disk
Page 174
========= Load SET or ST1 File ========A
Use the same assignments for loading SEQ
or ALL files. If confused, just load it.
-------- Conversion Table ----------
MPC60 Pad:HIHT-CLSD (A01)
Becomes note:56 (Gen MIDI:COWBELL )
========================================
<Load file>
In MPC60 Version 2 SET or ST1 files, sounds were assigned to one of
32 pad names (HIHT-CLSD, HIHT-MEDM, HIHT-OPEN, SNR1, SNR2 ...
DR15, and DR16.) In the Version 3 software, SET and ST1 files are not
used. Instead, programs are used to hold sound assignments. But in
programs, sounds are assigned to one of 64 note numbers (35–98)
instead of to pad names. Therefore, in order to load the SET or ST1 file,
these pad assignments must be converted to note number assignments.
This is done automatically when <Load file> is pressed in the screen
above. Assignments are made according to the conversion table
displayed in the lower part of the screen. The conversion table consists
of two fields:
• The MPC60 pad field:
Select one of the 32 MPC60 Version 2 pad names in this field.
For convenience, the pad number is shown to the right.
• The Becomes note field:
This field shows the note number to which the displayed pad
name assignment will be converted. There is a unique note
number assignment for each of the 32 MPC60 pad names. To
change the note number assignment, edit the contents of this
field. For convenience in deciding which note number to use, the
General MIDI instrument assignment for the displayed note
number is shown to the right.
It is not necessary to edit the table. Your Version 1 or 2 SET or ST1 file
will load and play just fine if you press <Load it> without editing the table.
The only reason to edit the table is if you want the resulting program’s
note number-to-sound assignments to correspond to specific
instruments. By default, Version 2 pad names will be translated to
General MIDI note numbers having the same instrument name. For
example, a sound assigned to the Version 2 pad BASS will be translated
by default to note number 36, which has a General MIDI assignment of
Bass Drum 1. It is desirable to use General MIDI note number
assignments because this is the standard for instrument note number
assignments played over MIDI.
This conversion table is also used to convert Version 2 SEQ or ALL files,
in which case the sound assignments are converted from pad numbers
to note numbers. If you modify the conversion table, make sure that the
same settings are used when loading any Version 2 SEQ or ALL files
that you plan to use with the converted SET or ST1 files.
