sound which could cause playback delays. Pressing this soft key causes
the following screen to appear:
========= Find Best Soft Start ========A
Start threshold%: 5
Press <Do it> to change SOFT START to
earliest sample that exceeds threshold.
========================================
<Do it>
It works by searching through the sound for the earliest sample that
exceeds the threshold entered into the Start threshold field. To find the
best start, enter a number into the field (5% is a good starting point) and
press <Do it>. At that time, the Edit Sound screen reappears with the
Soft st field set to the optimum starting value. Experiment with the
threshold value. A value too low will start the sound too early, causing a
slight playback delay; a value too high will start too far into the sound,
cutting off too much of the beginning.
The Edit Samples section of the screen (right side)
This section allows the editing of the sound’s actual sample data. The
following is a description of the fields and soft keys.
• The Zone st (zone start) and Zone end fields:
These two fields are used to edit the actual sample data. They define
the start and end of a zone to be altered with the Do field and <Do> soft
key. The contents of the zone can be copied, deleted, silenced, or
reversed. Both fields are of the seconds.milliseconds.samples format as
described in the Soft st section above.
• The Play X field:
This field works in conjunction with the <Play X> soft key to audition any
portion of the sound before editing. When the <Play X> key is pressed, it
plays the portion of the sound that is currently selected in the PLAY X
field, a choice field. The options are:
ALL (the entire sound)
ZONE (from the start to the end of the zone)
TEMP (the current contents of the temporary storage area)
BEFORE ZONE (the portion of the sound before the zone start)
AFTER ZONE (the portion of the sound after the zone end)
BEFR SOFT ST (the portion of the sound before the soft start)
AFTR SFT END (the portion of the sound after the soft end)
