DISK MANAGEMENT
DISK UTILITIES
The DISK UTILITIES pages are where you do your disk management routines such as deleting
unwanted files and unused audio, renaming files, etc.. You may also format disks, copy files from
one disk to another and back up disks to tape.
Pressing the DISK key will show something like this display:
To access the DISK UTILITIES page, press DISK UTILS (F5/F6) and you will see this display:
As on other pages in the RE32, the TRACKS parameter is used to select the machine for which
you want perform any of the DISK UTILITY functions. To avoid confusion, the machines are listed
by the tracks they represent. For example, machine 1 may be shown as “1-16”, machine 2 as “17-
32” etc..
Once you have selected a machine, the DISK parameter is used to select the ID of the disk you
want to access. As each disk is selected, the other fields on the page will update to show you the
TOTAL CAPACITY of the selected disk as well as the amount of disk space used and the amount
of remaining space for audio.
DISK INFO
Pressing INFO (F1) on the DISK UTILITIES page will display something like this screen:
This screen gives more information about the type and size of the selected disk, how much of the
disk is used and how much is free. These values are expressed in Megabytes.
This screen shows the type of disk currently in the selected drive. The LABEL field shows a
hexadecimal number that is a unique number given to the disk at the time you format it. This
number is used internally by the disk management system to make sure there are never any
conflicts of disks when using multiple disks and also to allow any disk to be used in any drive at any
time so that you do not have to worry about which drive you put a disk into. The number is generated
randomly when you format the disk. It is highly unlikely that two of your disks will share the same
label but this field is shown just in case you do experience some problem and you can compare
labels to see if there is a conflict. However, the chances of this happening are remote to say the
least! Part of the label is the name you gave the disk when you formatted. This is shown after the
hexadecimal number.
The only field accessible in this page is the ID field in the top right hand corner. Here, you may
select to view other disks that may be connected to this machine.
