Chapter 11: MIDI Function
The MPC3000 eliminates these problems by specially processing
sustain pedal messages. If the Convert sustain pedal to
duration
field is set to ON, when the MPC3000 receives a Sustain
On message during record, it will NOT record it. Instead, any notes
that are currently pressed will be internally held on, even after they
are released, until a Sustain Off message is received. The result is
that the individual durations of notes are lengthened, so unwanted
transfer of sustain information to other notes on the same MIDI
channel is impossible. This has the added advantage of allowing you
to adjust durations of sustained notes individually in Step Edit
mode.
There are some situations in which converting sustain pedal to
duration is undesirable:
1. On some synthesizers, this special sustain method will
cause the synthesizer to ignore any new notes played
after all available voices are used, because the synthe-
sizer thinks the keys are still held.
2. Some synthesizers have the ability to use MIDI controller
64 for other purposes than sustain, so it is desirable to
record it into the sequence.
For these reasons, the MPC3000’s special sustain processing can be
defeated. To defeat this special feature and record MIDI sustain
messages (controller 64) into sequences, set this field to OFF.
• SOFT KEYS 1 and 2—<Play snds from MIDI>:
Pressing either of these soft keys presents a screen that explains
how to play the MPC3000’s internal sounds from its MIDI input.
These soft keys are only used to display information—they don’t
affect any data in the MPC3000.
• SOFT KEYS 3 and 4 —<Send MIDI frm pds>:
Pressing either of these soft keys presents a screen that explains
how to send note events out over MIDI when the MPC3000’s pads
are played. These soft keys are only used to display information—
they don’t affect any data in the MPC3000.
