Chapter 10: Syncing to Tape and Other Devices
Syncing to Tape and Other Devices: Examples
This section provides step-by-step examples of how to sync to each of
the five sync signals.
Syncing to MIDI Clock
To generate MIDI clock with Song Position Pointer:
1. In the Sync screen, set the MIDI sync field (in the Sync Out
section) to the MIDI port that you want the sync signal to be sent
from (OUT A, OUT B, OUT C or OUT D.)
2. Play a sequence (or, if in Song mode, play a song). While playing,
the MIDI clock signal will be sent out over MIDI at the current
tempo.
To slave the MPC3000 to MIDI clock signal received from an
external device:
1. Connect a MIDI cable from the MIDI output of the device sending
MIDI clock to one of the MPC3000’s MIDI inputs.
2. In the Sync screen, set the Mode field (in the Sync In section) to
MIDI CLOCK and set the MIDI input field to the number of
the MIDI input to which you have connected the cable.
3. In the Sync screen, SOFT KEY 1 should show the text
<SyncIn=ON>. If it shows <SyncIn=OFF>, press it once.
4. Set up your MPC3000 sequence or song to play as normal.
5. Start the external device sending MIDI clock. The MPC3000 will
automatically play in sync.
Syncing to SMPTE
To record a SMPTE track:
SMPTE timecode can only be generated by the MPC3000 when it is
not playing. Before recording any music to tape, record (“stripe”)
SMPTE timecode onto one track of your multitrack tape.
