Chapter 9: Saving to and Loading from Disk
• The Becomes note field:
This field shows the note number to which the displayed pad
name assignment will be converted. There is a unique note
number assignment for each of the 32 MPC60 pad names. To
change the note number assignment, edit the contents of
this field. For convenience in deciding which note number to
use, the General MIDI instrument assignment for the
displayed note number is shown to the right.
It is not necessary to edit the table. Your MPC60 SET or ST1 file
will load and play just fine if you press <Load it> without editing
the table. The only reason to edit the table is if you want the result-
ing program’s note number-to-sound assignments to correspond to
specific instruments. By default, MPC60 pad names will be trans-
lated to General MIDI note numbers having the same instrument
name. For example, a sound assigned to MPC60 pad BASS will be
translated by default to note number 36, which has a General MIDI
assignment of Bass drum 1. It is desirable to use General MIDI
note number assignments because this is the standard for instru-
ment note number assignments played over MIDI.
This conversion table is also used to convert MPC60 SEQ or ALL
files, in which case the sound assignments are converted from pad
numbers to note numbers. If you modify the conversion table, make
sure that the same settings are used when loading any MPC60 SEQ
or ALL files that you plan to use with the converted SET or ST1
files.
If you modify the conversion table from the factory-preset defaults,
your changes will be retained in memory even after power is turned
off, so that the next time you load an MPC60 sequence, it will be
converted using your edited conversion assignments.
COMMENT: In the MPC60, an ST1 file is a SET file that is
too large to fit on a single disk, so it is saved in two parts:
FILENAME.ST1 (the first disk) and FILENAME.ST2 (the
second disk). After you load an ST1 file, a message will
appear on the screen asking you to insert the disk containing
the ST2 file associated with the ST1 just loaded. Other than
this additional message screen, loading ST1 files is identical
to loading SET files.
To load only one sound from the SET or ST1 file
If 2 (Load one sound from the SET file) is selected
from the Load SET or ST1 File menu screen, the following screen
will appear:
