Chapter 6: Creating and Editing Programs

The Dynamic Filter

Each of the 32 voices in the MPC3000 has a 12 dB per octave

dynamic resonant lowpass filter and a second envelope generator

dedicated to modulating the filter frequency. All controls related to

this filter and envelope generator are accessed by selecting option 3

from the initial PROGRAM/SOUNDS key menu, which presents the

following screen:

Each of the screen’s data fields and the soft key are explained below:

The title line:

• The Pgm (program number) field:

This is the active program number (1-24). All data shown in the

fields below apply only to this program.

• The Note field:

All data values in the lower portion of the screen apply only to the

note number (35-98) selected in this field. For convenience, the pad

number currently assigned to the selected note number is displayed

to the right. The note number in this field can be changed either by

cursor editing or by pressing one of the front panel pads—the note

number currently assigned to that pad will be selected automati-

cally.

The upper section:

• The Freq (frequency) field:

This is the cutoff frequency of the lowpass filter specified as an

arbitrary value from 0 (about 70 Hz) to 100 (filter completely out).

• The Vel>Freq (velocity modulation of frequency) field:

This is the amount of effect velocity has on the filter frequency (0-

100%). If set above 0, increasing note velocity will increase the

cutoff frequency (i.e., open the filter).
