Chapter 6: Creating and Editing Programs
The Edit Sound Assignments section of the screen:
• The Assign note field:
The Assign note and Sound field work together to assign
sounds to MIDI note numbers. To assign a sound, first select the
note number to be assigned (35-98) in the Assign note field.
Then select the desired sound for that note number in the Sound
field. You can also select a note number by pressing one of the drum
pads—the note number currently assigned to that pad will be
selected automatically. (To change the MIDI note number assign-
ments for each pad, press the MIDI key and select option 1.)
For convenience, the pad number currently assigned to the
selected note number is displayed to its right. (If no pad is currently
assigned to the note number, then [- -] is displayed.)
• The Sound field:
This field contains the sound assignment for the note number
selected above. This is a choice field containing an alphabetical list
of all sounds currently in memory, or OFF. If a stereo sound is
selected, (ST) will appear to the right of the sound name.
• The Mode field:
This is a choice field with four options:
1. NORMAL:
Only the sound in the Sound field plays when the
selected MIDI note number is received. The screen
appears as below:
============ Select Program ============
Active program:24-PROGRAM NAME
========== Assign Note:37/A01 ==========
Sound:Tiny tom (ST) Mode:NORMAL
General MIDI name for note:SIDE STICK
========================================
<Play>
If this option is selected, the fifth line will contain the
field General MIDI name for note. This non-
editable field shows the instrument name in the General
MIDI standard for the selected MIDI note number. If you
want your custom programs to be compatible with the
General MIDI standard, then select sound assignments
that are of the same instrument type as shown in this
field.
2. SIMULT (Simultaneous):
This option allows up to two additional sounds to play
automatically whenever the note number specified in the
Note field is received—useful for creating layered
